I let Google's AI turn my resume into a podcast
How to make a podcast all about yourself (or anything else)
I just found a way to make my career journey sound interesting and fun using Google's new AI tool, Notebook LM. I'm always excited about working on my professional development, but sometimes resumes can feel stuffy and generic. I recently discovered how to turn a document that has the potential to be boring (like a resume) into something that sounds like my own personal How I Built This episode. This isn’t limited to your resume, by the way. Google’s Notebook LM can make a podcast about anything. I also created a podcast to explain quantum physics to me!
A podcast about me:
A podcast explaining the basics of quantum physics in under six minutes:
How to make your podcast
Before you start, you'll need a Google account. Gather all your receipts: for your career podcast, grab your resume, LinkedIn profile, and any other docs that show your professional journey. The more information you provide, the better the AI can do its work. Remember, only provide things you’re comfortable with the public knowing.
Here’s your step-by-step guide:
Go to notebooklm.google.com
Create a New Notebook
Upload all the documents with the info you’d like featured in the podcast.
Select Notebook Guide
Select Generate Audio Overview
The moment of truth
When I first heard my career story played back to me, I couldn’t believe this was AI. Despite a small error at the beginning (instead of saying “and”, the host says “A-N-D”), the AI created a narrative that made my career sound like a real story. It picked up on themes I’ve tried to communicate in my resume, like my consistent focus on content experiences, and how each role built on the last.
In a world where we're all trying to stand out, having a tool that can transform your professional story into something engaging feels inspirational. It's almost like having a personal brand strategist.
The final verdict
While traditional resumes aren't going anywhere, having an AI-powered podcast version of your career journey can help with personal branding and communications. Even if no one ever listens to it, hearing gave me a sense of pride around everything I’ve accomplished over the years.
If you're feeling stuck in your career journey or just want to shake things up, give NotebookLM a try. Worst case scenario? You spend 15 minutes creating something cool. Best case? You might discover a new way to tell your professional story. And I think that’s what we're all looking for — ways to make our professional lives feel more genuine and less like we're trying to fit into someone else's idea of success.
If you try the Notebook LM feature for your career trajectory or anything else, please drop a link below so I can listen. I’m genuinely interested!
Biweekly disruptions
Anthropic CEO goes full techno-optimist in 15,000-word paean to AI (TechCrunch) Dario Amodei is no AI pessimist. In a sweeping 15,000-word manifesto, Amodei foresees AI curing diseases, doubling lifespans, and even solving world hunger in the next decade. But while his essay is heavy on optimism, it offers little in the way of hard evidence—especially when today's AI struggles with even basic reasoning. So, despite Amodei’s grand predictions, this techno-utopian vision feels more like aspirational science fiction than an imminent reality.
The Race to Harness Quantum Computing's Mind-Bending Power | The Future With Hannah Fry (YouTube) With the promise of unimaginable computing power, a global race for quantum supremacy is raging. Who will be first to harness this new technological force, and what will they do with it? Scariness level: 5 (out of 5).
AI scans RNA ‘dark matter’ and uncovers 70,000 new viruses (Nature) Researchers have used AI to discover 70,500 previously unknown RNA viruses, many of which exist in extreme environments like salt lakes and hydrothermal vents. The viruses were identified using metagenomics, a technique that examines genomes from environmental samples. The findings could uncover the source of diseases with no known causes, though further research is needed to determine the hosts and ecological roles of these viruses.
OMG Nicole. I actually listen to the whole podcast about you. Wow what an amazing AI creation. And you are the queen for sure🥳🥳😍😍
