Love this piece, Nicolle! I love that you mentioned the challenge around "girlboss fatigue" framing -- "learn AI" in that particular tone does sound like another productivity treadmill, and as a woman, it's easy to feel suspicious of that pitch.

What I've found through my experience working with AI and building, is that AI doesn't have to be the ever speeding treadmill that Im racing to keep up with. It's the opposite when I focus on slowing down, asking better questions, and trusting my own taste and judgment over more output. I find it powerful when I use it to make more room for the part of my thinking that's been squeezed out for years and reducing the invisible labor we hold as women.

So I'm with you on the structural fix, and moving beyond the narrative of "lean in harder." I love that you shared Shae Omonijo's framing as well -- going to check out more of her work.

Thank you again for this great piece!

Women were told in the 1980-1990's that we could 'have it all'. As Gen X hit midlife, we know that wasn't true (and have the meds to prove it!). Now, they're telling us to 'lean into AI', as if our agency alone will dispel the issues many women have with AI.

Wouldn't it be nice if the system met us halfway and leant into us?
